APRIL SOUND UPBEAT
A newly formed April Sound Men’s Club got off to a good start with 77 attending the first meeting in January. They will meet the fourth Thursday of each month.
Paul Belcher, popular club manager, was guest speaker for the first meeting and plans are underway for a variety of programs. Also under consideration are a number of special interest groups such as computer technology, genealogy and investments.
Officers were selected for the club with Vince Roby as President; Tony Radinsky, Membership Chairman; Jim Miller, Program Chairman; Bill Buerger, Treasurer; Jim Hough, Secretary; and Bill Cant, Publicity Chairman.
The next luncheon is Thursday, February 27.
April Sound was well represented at the recent inauguration ceremony and other events in Austin. On hand to see Rick Perry sworn in as the 47th governor of Texas were Sue Holladay, Flo Walker, Luine Hancock, Dorothy Lynch, Beth and Jim Maxwell and Delores and Charlie Powers. There were probably others from April Sound hidden in the crowd.
Festivities started early with the Governor’s Prayer Service at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. At noon the oath of office ceremony took place on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.
Our April Sounders then moved to the south lawn of the capitol for the inaugural barbecue. Still in the mood to celebrate, they attended the ball at the Austin Convention Center in the evening. The Maxwells were unusually lucky; their hotel room overlooked the parade route so they got to stand at the window to watch it. The others were among the throngs on the parade route.
Many of those in Austin stopped by to visit State Representative Ruben Hope’s new office, and wish him well in the new session of the legislature. He is assuming some heavy responsibilities. |
