APRIL SOUND UPBEAT
By JJB
April Sound artists bring garner top honors
April Sound artists brought home many ribbons from the recent Conroe Art League judged show, which was open to all members of the Lone Star Art Guild. For the first time there was a special award. Conroe Mayor Carter E. Moore was asked to choose his favorite piece of art, and Joanne Quinn won with a portrait of here granddaughter entitled "Maddie at 5," done in oils.
Joanne is a genius at doing portraits, and won ribbons for two other portraits she did of Jackie and Raleigh Barker’s grandchildren. They completed a set of four she did of Barker grandchildren. She also won for a still life entitled "Pears." Joanne is judged in the professional category.
Velma Powell entered in the adult student section and brought home two ribbons, one for a painting entitled "Serenity," and the second for "Time Goes By." She is part of the April Sound artists who paint every Tuesday.
Joyce Beckwith brought home three ribbons for her imaginative watercolors. Carol Schneider garnered two ribbons in the non-professional category. Mary Devine earned a second place for "Study of Nature."
Julie Coman took a first place in the professional category for a photograph titled "Salt Marsh." Ann Johnson won a first place in the adult student section for "Caladiums."
Congratulations to all of our April Sound artists. |
