APRIL SOUND UPBEAT

April Sound Ladies Association

By Ann Marie Ricci

There was something different as the April Sound ladies gathered for their luncheon meeting on the morning of Wednesday, September 22nd. Always before there had been a few employees of the Club offering rides from the cars to the Lakeside Room. But this day there were many golf carts lined up and waiting. As I received my ride from Tony Radinsky, Men's Club President and husband of our second VicePresident, Janice Radinsky, he explained that the April Sound Men's Club had decided to have some of the members volunteer each luncheon day to assist by giving rides to and from the meeting place. What a nice thing! Walking on the partly gravel parking lot is not easy in dressy shoes, and if you come late enough to need to park in the back, it's quite a long way. Thank you, guys! You are appreciated. Keep up the good work!
Karen Schanberger announced that there are now 375 members, and introduced the newest member, Bonita Longmire. President Flo Walker gave announcements and read thank you notes from several people who received food and help from our Outreach Committee.
Donna Kopecky, who is Chairman of the Holiday Gala on Saturday, December 4th, discussed the changes that the committee has proposed. This year there will be a cocktail hour followed by a sitdown dinner and entertainment. Pat Reagan said that the invitations will be going out to all members in the near future. Many guests were present since the program was a popular style show presented by Nina Gentry.
Nina is a Conroe resident who has owned a home based clothing sales called Unique Boutique for the last seven years. For the past 2 years, she has been a manufacturer's representative for Three Sisters clothing line from Dallas. She commented that it was a very good choice for her latest career and she gets to attend the clothing markets in Dallas, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. During the style show, she constantly showed different combinations of basic clothing staples that could be taken on a trip and could go from casual to dressy with just the addition of a scarf, jacket, or change of a shell. Nina has a wonderful easy style of moderating that instantly catches the interest of everyone in the room.
Along with Nina's interesting dialogue and great ideas, six beautiful ladies from the Association modeled two outfits each from the clothing lines. The models were Ann Marsau, Anita Harris, Barbara DeVaney, Dolores Power, Ann Richmond, and Barbara LeBlanc. Each lady, with Nina's advice, had chosen her outfits very wisely, because everyone looked great in what she had chosen to wear. The style show was a great success! After the meeting, clothing was on display for purchase, along with a lovely line of jewelry, scarves, and purses to enhance the outfits. Nina's clothing line is available to the public at Terri's Salon on Walden Road, Expert Nails, Studio 105, and Aunt Mabel's.
The October meeting of the Ladies Association, on Wednesday, October 27th, will be our annual Trade Show Day. Members of the Association will have 25 vendor booths selling various handmade and custom created treasures. It's a great place to begin or finish (if you're one of those super organized people) your holiday shopping! The sale will be open to just those members and guests who are attending the luncheon from 9:30 until 11:30 AM. Then, following the meeting, at 12:30, the sale will reopen for the public and anyone interested is welcome to come and shop until 2:00 PM. Cochairs for this event are Peggy Simme and Shirley Hunt.
Another great coming event for April Sound will be "Puttin' on the Glitz", a dinner, talent show, and dance to be held at the Lakeside Room on Saturday, November 6th starting with the gathering hour at 6:30 PM. Residents of April Sound are already busy, with the leadership of director Connie Hones, practicing their singing, dancing, comedy and instrumental entertainment. Following the show, there will be dancing to the music of DJ Alan Arevalo. All of this wonderful evening is $25.00 per person, and reservations can be made by calling the April Sound Club at 936/5881101. Come and enjoy a great evening at our club!
