April UpBeat
Charlene Long was watching the TV news reports about the counting og ballots in Florida, and decided she wanted to let George W. Bush know how much she appreciated the way he was handling things during this difficult time. She is known far and wide for her expertise with needlepoint, so not surprisingly chose to make a needlepoint picture for him as a gift. She created a design which incorporated the American flag, the Lone Star flag and an elephant symbol symbolizing the Republican party. Husband Earl, who is an engineer, did the graphics for the design, and Charlene set to work on the project. It took a month and thousands of stitches to finish the colorful red, white and blue needlepoint canvas. Then followed the search for the perfect frame to complete the gift. *************** Dorothy Lynch is very busy these days. She is working on the upcoming fund raiser for CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County. Entitled "Carousel", the gala is at The Woodlands Resort ballroom. The glitzy evening includes dinner, dancing, and both silent and live auctions. One of the auction items is a painting by our Joyce Beckwith. We bet it will bring lively bidding. Proceeds benefit CASA in their work of supporting children through the court system. Dorothy says helping kids makes the work she and all the volunteers are doing worthwhile. Tickets are $55 each. For information or tickets, call 936-441-5437. *************** A number of people from April Sound will be working at the Designer Showcase Home, a fund raiser for the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society. The home is nearby at 16043 Walden Road, and will be open February 10-25. Local designers have pulled out all the stops in furnishing the home and showing some great decorating ideas. Lunch will be served daily except Sunday, and there will also be a boutique with unique items. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or any member of MCPAS will be happy to sell you one. |
