APRIL SOUND UPBEAT
Shalir Vinsonhaler plays at the April Sound Country Club of Friday and Saturday nights and he is a popular attraction. Recently some of the members asked him to entertain at a private party held at the home of Luise Long. Several dozen guests gathered to request their favorite songs and often sang along. Luise Long and Raleigh Barker both took the microphone to sing. Sometimes the old tunes are the best and Shalir played many songs from the 1940's as they were requested and included some of his original compositions. He sang a love song he wrote for his wife which brought down the house. Forty-one women gathered at April Sound Church for a weekend retreat led by Sallie Clingman. Her discussions encompassed the Five Surprises of a Christian Life. The Antique Collectors were at it again. They took another field trip. Ruth Cant and Mimi Loftus led them on a jaunt to Tomball where they visited a museum complex and saw an early German church, an 1800's home and a more modest cottage. A docent conducted the tour and answered questions about life in Tomball as the settlers arrived. From there they had a lively lunch in a tea room and then spread out to do some serious shopping. The group with Mary Feldman filled the trunk of her car and had to send a messenger back the next day to pick up the rest of their antique finds. The Home Decorating group went to a trunk show in the Woodlands which featured a number of local craftsmen and again the cars were filled up with purchases. There’s a lot of fun going on in April sound, but there is a lot of serious stuff too. The Musical Sounders took their act to a nursing home. A number of the ASLA members do volunteer work ranging from working in the Thrift Shop of the Assistance League of Lake Conroe to working at Montgomery County Emergency Assistance. |
