The Home Decorating special interest group in April Sound started a tradition which we love. Each year several of our members open up their home for a Christmas tour. For our 2002 tour, Marcia Bloh, Barbara Cluck and Barbara Ellis shared their Christmas decorations with us.
The skies were overcast but that didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. All of Marcia’s home got oohs and aahs, but a favorite spot was a little alcove off of her living room, where each of her three grandchildren had decorated a small tree. One of the bedrooms had a patriotic theme, and showcased memorabilia from husband Bill’s time in the Navy.
As guests arrived at Barbara Cluck’s home, they were given a brochure with a Christmas sentiment for each room. She had brought back three armoires from Belgium, and they generated a lot of admiration.
Barbara Ellis used the color purple for her Christmas theme, and the decorations brought many compliments. She used a high windowsill to display her collections of Nutcrackers. When it started raining Barbara was prepared. She stood at the door and handed out plastic bags for her guests to put over their heads as they dashed for cars.
At the conclusion of the tour, ASLA President Marvelle Finch invited everyone over for punch and snacks. Happily Marvelle and her husband Gene own Celebrity Jewelry, and she allowed us to browse and make a few selections for Christmas gifts while visiting with April Sound friends.
Something new is happening with the men in April Sound. Starting the 4th Thursday of January and continuing each month, they are forming a men’s club. They will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the club. It should be a winner.
And speaking of winners, the April Sound Country Club threw a party for the members, and it was a packed house, with Shalir Vinsonhaler and friends entertaining. The staff outdid themselves with goodies. As is the annual tradition, members brought a toy for the club’s Toys for Tots program. |
