APRIL SOUND UPBEAT
By JJB

Gerald Albert and Beverly Cox were married in a ceremony in the Lakeside Room of April Sound Country Club.

Joanne Quinn poses with two portraits on which she won ribbons at the Conroe Art League Spring Judged Show.

New annex building at April Sound Church.

provides a large Fellowship Hall with an impressive kitchen featuring two dishwashers and space for storage of kitchen supplies. The second floor has a large meeting room for a very active youth group in the church. Both floors have much needed Sunday School rooms.

What was previously offices for the church has been converted into a comfortable library. Offices have been moved upstairs in new quarters, which had originally served as a Fellowship Hall. Everyone in the community is invited to stop by to see the annex.

Beverly Cox and Gerald Albert were married in a recent ceremony in the Lakeside Room of the April Sound Country Club. Beverly is often referred to as the "Angel Lady" because she has a business named "Beverly's Angels," but more importantly because she is quick to help people in need of anything from a hot meal on return home from a hospital stay to a kind friend to pray with. Her new husband is a Baptist minister. We are happy they are staying in April Sound because they enrich the community.

The April Sound Ladies Association got the year 2002 off to a lively start. The January luncheon featured the appearance of a singing and dancing troupe from Tyler Junior College. They lighted up the room with their vibrant personalities and added much color with their three changes of costumes. They were such a success they have been invited to return next January.

February brought the popular Brooks and Dunn act with Judge Jerry Winfree and Judge Dennis Watson strumming guitars and lip syncing words to some great country western tunes. The April Sound line dancers joined them on Boot Scootin' Boogie and showed their moves. The two judges say they will give up their act after this performance, but they have such enthusiastic audiences they will probably be talked into doing it a few more times.

March will bring us a fashion show with styles from Nina Gentry's Unique Boutique. When spring arrives we are all ready for a new look, and Phyllis McNamara, program chairman, promises us a look at new styles in a variety of sizes.

Our April Sound artists always do us proud. Among winners at the recent Conroe Art League show was Joanne Quinn, who is painting portraits of Jackie Barker's grandchildren. She won the ribbons on a picture of Isabel Barker with her dog and Hunter Schwob proudly displaying his catch, a 3" long fish.

Joyce Beckwith, who always comes away with a ribbon, won for an oil painting depicting a group of pelicans at water's edge. She cleverly named it "Conversations." Doris Wright won with a scene of a garden gate opening to reveal a beautiful garden behind it. Congratulations to them all.
