The Civic Association has just elected four new members to the board--Pat Whitman, Jim Riley, Gary Cluck and Diane Wilson. Now the board is busy kicking around ideas as to how they may provide the extras that make April Sound such a great place to live. Roz Dauzat, manager of the Edward Jones investment office across from April Sound, and Paul Belcher, club manager, introduced an idea which is going to be a real winner. They invited business owners who live in April Sound to attend an organizational meeting of a networking breakfast which would enable them to get acquainted with other business people in the community. Twenty-five people attended this first breakfast. It was deemed a success and those attending asked it be continued. Each business person was given two minutes to introduce themselves and tell about their business. Suggestion sheets were handed out for comments about what would be most helpful at future meetings. April Sound artists are winners. At a recent show, Julie Coman walked away with four ribbons, a first place for a pastel titled "Pink Abode," another first for a photograph "The Wink," and a third place for a photo entitled "Gator Country." Her pastel "Ristas" won an honorable mention. Doris Wright received a third place ribbon for an oil painting "Garden Gate." In the pastel category, Joyce Beckwith received a second place for her portrait of a neighbor entitled "James," and an honorable mention for "Ocomo Pots." Her experimental painting "Pelicans" took a second place. Joanne Quinn, portrait painter par excellence, received two honorable mentions for depictions of children. The owner of the portraits says they should be first place winners because Joanne is such a gifted artist. Joanne also acts as mentor for a group of artists who paint together on Tuesdays. April Sound Church is presenting a musical program on Palm Sunday, and the community is invited to attend. On Easter Sunday the church will hold its traditional sunrise service by the lake at 7 a.m., and the club is serving a pancake breakfast after the service. |
