Judge Dennis Watson and Judge Jerry Winfree (a.k.a. Brooks & Dunn)

The April Sound Civic Association is having it annual meeting and election on Friday, March 9, 6:30 p.m. in the Lakeside Room of April Sound Country Club. Five highly qualified residents are running for the ASCA board: Vicky Burg, Ed Henderson, Steve McDonald, Rashid Merchant and Kim Ward. Ballots will tallied at meeting.

April Sound Antique Collectors visited Florian Gallery in Houston. Owner Florian Gersick explained the fine points of Russian icons.

Neighbors Day Out is being combined with a dedication of the new park on Sunday, March 18. There will be a "moonwalk" and many organized events for the kids and horseshoes, a softball game and more. The day will give us all a chance to meet neighbors and enjoy the new park at the same time.

The April Sound Antique Collector group made a field trip into Houston to visit Florian Galleries led Joy Caviness and Fay Kragh. They heard a

Ann Pabst

lecture on Russians Icons given by owner Florian Gersick. Following the lecture they toured the gallery looking at icons, pictures painted on a hard film of stone. They were done by monks in the 1500's. Most are more than 500 years old.

An egg yolk tempra on real gold leaf was used by the monks as they prayed continually during the process. The paintings are sometimes called "Windows to Heaven" and the group viewing the icons agreed it helped regain spiritually.

Cattle herding cowboys on the trail would have been surprised to see the array of western wear modeled by April Sound Ladies Association members for their February fashion show. There was an abundance of glitz and glamour. Judges Dennis Watson and Jerry Winfree brought the house down with their Brooks and Dunn routine. County Judge Alan B. Sadler and his wife Mimi joined the luncheon group and he took to the runway to show what a well dressed cowboy wears.
