A singing group, First Praise, was featured at the recent April Sound Ladies Association meeting and they brought us a number of patriotic tunes to mark the 4th of July. Appearing were Mimi Devereaux, a fine arts teacher; Tom Tillman, minister of music for First Baptist Church in Conroe; Karen Liles, who also plays handbells; and husband and wife Ray and Angela Morrow.
After a stirring program of patriotic songs and folk songs, which reflected our country’s history, they ended with The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Anita Harris and her committee got us in the mood for the holiday with striking centerpieces and decorations around the room in red, white and blue.
Page Hern, Americanism Chairman for the Lake Conroe Area Republican Women, came as a special guest speaker and spoke about patriotism and leaders of our country, and the values on which it was formed. She closed with a poem “Freedom,” which brought the thought freedom is not free.
The Lakeside Room was ablaze with red, white and blue as we all dressed in patriotic colors.
The April Sound Civic Association did a lot of work to make the Independence Day holiday special for everyone. They sponsored our annual parade through parts of the community, and gave out ten prizes. Winners were Jennifer and Jeffrey Wharton and Avery Self; Michael and Ryan Sandifer, Eric Burg and Patrick Walker; Brandie Butler; Shea and Devon Paluso; Barbara Cluck; Christina Ferguson; Jesse Erickson; Elizabeth Whitney; Linda and David Shields; and Cathy Stockton. It’s amazing what can be done with a golf cart and an abundance of creativity.
Fun and games at the pool were planned by the Civic Association as well as two evenings of movies, one for children and one for adults. Getting back into the routine after a four-day holiday wasn’t easy.
The Civic Association is one of the hardest working groups around. More about all of their accomplishments next week.
