Who We Are

APRIL SOUND UPBEAT

Father Ed Kucera talks about St. Mary’s Church in Plantersville to the April Sound Antique Collectors and friends.

Not even our 90 degree heat keeps the April Sound Collectors at home. Our latest jaunt was to the antique show at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville.

The group met at 9 a.m. to carpool, and we were happily browsing among antique booths by 9:30 a.m. While it was cool enough we covered the outdoor booths, and as the sun got hotter we moved indoors to chat with those vendors and add to our antiques.

Mary Feldman led the group this time, and as a special treat she arranged for Father Ed Kucera to take us on the tour of the historic 1917 painted church. We admired the beauty of the German craftsmanship in the church, and appreciated the fact church members had preserved their heritage.

Father Kucera said there are three other painted churches in the Plantersville area, and hopes that someday they will be part of a tour for visitors. We hope it comes about.

While we were there he extended an invitation for everyone to come back for the St. Mary's Church Bazaar on Sunday, September 2, and most of us plan to go back.

A lot of reading is going on in April Sound. We have four book groups and plans are being made to start an evening group. The choices are eclectic. Currently being read for discussion are "The Search" by Iris Johanson, "The Road Taken" by Rona Jaffe and "Girl With the Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier.

We have a unique special interest group called "Friends." If a member wants to go somewhere and needs a friend or two to do it with, they just call leaders Ann Pabst or Jan McDonald and the activity is set up for anyone interested. That's on offer you can't resist.

Our Musical Sounders are practicing again, and will be singing at the Regent Care Nursing Home in The Woodlands to entertain the residents there.
