APRIL SOUND UPBEAT
JANICE BRANDT, who is Chief of the security team in April Sound, was invited to be a special guest during the July luncheon of the April Sound Ladies Association. She was presented a special framed certificate for her service to the April Sound community, and a second certificate was presented to the 12-member security staff who add to our quality of life. In one 24-hour period, a total of 246 phone calls were made to our gate. Janice said cars counted coming in the gate for the two week period 5/18 to 5/31/01 totaled 67,235. A seven-day count from 7/20 - 7/27/01, a typical summer week, indicated 31,137 cars entered through the gate. Security has a formidable job keeping track of what is going on in April Sound. Homeowners have permits on their cars; all others stop at the gate to explain their mission in April Sound. We try to make things easier for the security staff by calling to let them know in advance when we are expecting guests, but even then it takes time to identify them. And they have the task of checking on all other vehicles on the streets. The best part of our security is that they patrol the streets constantly and prevent problems before they occur. It is reassuring to know that help is just a few seconds away when it is needed. Security monitors 911 calls and when an April Sound resident is involved, they go to the home immediately to offer help until an ambulance arrives. Janice has been Chief since 1985. She is aided by Lt. TIM THOMPSON, Sgt. DEXTER PITTS and Sgt. LINDA THOMPSON. Others members of the security team are WALTER BOEHM, DELANE POTTER, HECTOR BARRERA, GINGER JONES, KIMBERLY ROOT, MECHELLE TORNO, KENNETH LEE, JOSHUA SCHMOLL, DEREK TROTT, DEBBIE WELCH and JUAN FLORES. We always receive a friendly wave when we come in the gate, and we feel like they are family. Thanks, guys and gals. Songstress BECKY BILLS entertained at the luncheon, and even after the meeting was adjourned some of the members lingered on to play tambourines and dance to her music. Next month will be a fashion show from Stein Mart in the new Portofino Shopping Center on I-45 in Shenandoah. Our members will be modeling. We do love high fashion. |
