APRIL SOUND UPBEAT By JJB
The April Sound Ladies Association luncheon for August gave us a look at fall fashions and we liked what we saw. Ten of our members modeled the newest in fashions from Stein Mart in the Portafino Shopping Center. A not-so-funny thing happened to Christi Lucius, who had selected several sophisticated outfits from the designer boutique at Stein Mart to show. She had stomach pains and was rushed to the hospital for an appendectomy; she had to hear about the show second hand. Eva Kane made a fast trip to The Woodlands and was fitted with two outfits in the nick of time so she could fill in for Christi. Other models were Glenna Batterton, Roz Dauzat, Luine Hancock, Chris Kocian, Ann Richmond, Diana Marcotti, Felecia Opel, Arnee Papp and Pat Whitman. Nan Dammeier of Stein Mart narrated the show and showed an outfit herself. We learned that cropped pants are going to be popular again this season, and we saw some colorful ones, as well as classics for the backbone of a wardrobe and glitzy dresses for evening. Mary Harp entertained us on the piano as we arrived for lunch. Flo Walker and the decorating committee lined the runway with colorful shopping bags, and centered the tables with a faux purse, gloves and costume jewelry. Chef Stewart and his kitchen helpers served us a salad of baby spinach and baby mixed greens garnished with pears and blue cheese, and topped with a raspberry balsamic dressing as a first course. Then we enjoyed chicken and vegetable crepes with a vermouth veloute sauce and asparagus. By the time we got to the dessert course of cookies and cream cheese cake many of us were requesting take out boxes and spouses got an unexpected dessert. Next month Silks and Twigs are coming to show us how to decorate for the upcoming holidays, so we will not only be well dressed, we will have well dressed homes. |
