50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Happy 50th Anniversary wishes to Bill and Pat Wren. They celebrated this special occasion by renewing their vows at Saint Mary's Catholic Church with Father Edward C. Kucera officiating. Lynn Coffman played Ava Maria and other selections on the violin accompanied by Carol Grissom on the piano.
Approximately a hundred friends, neighbors and family members attended the reception. The beautifully decorated reception hall showcased Bill and Pat's wedding day and their silver anniversary celebration. The guests enjoyed listening and dancing to the Phil Gray Orchestra. The 'golden oldies' songs provided a lot of toe tapping even to those who chose not to dance.
McKenzie's Barbeque served a delicious assortment of meats and all the trimmings for dinner. The couple's anniversary cake was topped with a bride and groom trimmed in gold. Bride's Epicurean in Houston provided the white cake with strawberries. Nicole Dittman designed the floral centerpieces.
The Wren's children and families who attended were Karen and Larry Shumate and sons Spencer and Travis, Nicole and Todd Dittman, Bill Jr. and Carolyn Wren and daughters Stacey and Jackie Li, and Carl Wren. Also attending were Larry's mother Lillie Shumate and his brother Cary Shumate.
Rosemarie MacCartney enjoyed a fun filled weekend with her sister Sylvia Kokolus and cousin Michelle Hartung who visited from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Their first stop after arriving in Houston was to visit Rosemarie's new granddaughter, Olive, who is six months old.
Rosemarie's daughter, Mary, and Olive accompanied the ladies for a shopping trip and lunch in the Rice Village. The occasion became quite exciting when Mary locked Olive inside the car with the keys. Fortunately she started the car and turned on the air conditioner, so the baby was in no real danger. Shortly after calling 911 on Mary's cell phone several police cars; a fire truck and a wrecker appeared. No one was able to unlock the doors from the outside, but finally the ladies realized there was an extra set of keys at Mary's house. A policeman drove Mary home to retrieve the keys and Olive was rescued. Olive was a real trooper through the emergency everyone else was frantic!
The rest of the weekend was spent shopping in Montgomery and Old Town Spring and of course eating out. A quick trip out on Lake Conroe in their boat also caused some excitement. They rescued two young boys who were stuck on their jet ski and took them safely back to shore. Sylvia and Michelle left for the airport that Monday with many fond memories of a fun and exciting weekend.
The Annual Yard Sale and Bake Sale held by the Cape Conroe Ladies' Society last week was a great success. Thanks to all the ladies who helped with setting up the sale, baked items for the bake sale, purchased items, worked at the sale and helped clean up afterwards. A special thanks goes to everyone who attended the sale and purchased items from the yard sale and the bake sale. All proceeds from the sale go to local charities.
Tuesday May 4th at 11:30 a.m. is the monthly meeting of the Cape Conroe Ladies' Society. Bring a covered dish to the spring luncheon. Hostesses Jane Laake, Evelyn Parzyck and I will provide dessert.
Until next week take care, be safe and give someone a hug! Have a Great Week!
