Planes, Trains & Busses Across Canada
Ruth Zwimpfer, Rosie Besch, Merle Rorax and Dorotha Guinn recently returned from an exciting train trip across Canada. For the first leg of their trip Ruth and her siblings, Rosie and Merle, and her daughter Dorotha flew from Houston to Vancouver, Canada. The group of fortysix were treated to a bus tour of Vancouver followed by a ferry ride to Victoria where they visited the Busch Gardens.
Dorotha liked the lunch at Chateau Lake Louise the group visited in British Columbia.
The train ride across Canada on the Canadian Mountaineer left Victoria with their first stop in Kamaloops. In Jasper the group toured the ice glacier. Next they boarded the Canada Canadian Train for a threeday trip across the Rocky Mountains to Toronto. Ruth and the group toured the city and took a harbor cruise around the island on the lake.
Ruth, Rosie, Merle and Dorotha enjoyed traveling first class with seats in the dome car. The gourmet meals and cookies and refreshments served were divine. They saw beautiful leaves that were changing colors to vibrant reds, oranges and yellow. The weather cooperated with sunny skies and mild temperatures. The fifteenday trip concluded with a flight back to Houston.
Correction from last week! Sarah Ruthstrom's grandmother is Dorotha Ruthstrom, not Ruth Ruthstrom as I wrote in last week's column.
Tommy Bryant, son of Leo and Desiree Bryant, won the race Saturday night at College Station's racetrack, Hot Rod Hill Motor Park. After the win all the other drivers ran up and congratulated him with a shower of Gator Aid, hoses and all other liquid they could find. Tommy also won the second race of the night. He is 17 and a senior at Montgomery High School.
Happy Birthday wishes to Olivia Roberts. Catherine Woodruff hosted a birthday lunch for Olivia at Hyden's Steak and Seafood Restaurant last week. Catherine served a beautiful birthday cake and ice cream at her home for dessert. I attended along with Lorraine Wyatt, Dorothy Cullison, Betty Laird and Catherine.
At the POA Board Meeting last week Betsy McKernen was elected to an alternate position. Larry Bates was elected as a director to replace Paul Pittman.
Until next week take care, be safe and give someone a hug! Have a Great Week!
