CRUISIN’ CAPE CONROE
by Marty Sanford
Thursday, April 07, 2005
Wayne and Lynn Coffman recently returned from Wernigerode, Germany where they attended the wedding ceremony of their friends. Lynn played musical selections on her violin before the ceremony began and accompanied her daughter, Sandra Glenn, on the organ as she sang The Lords Prayer and Ava Maria during the ceremony. Wernigerode is a beautiful resort town located in East Germany.
Wayne and Lynn guided Sandra on her first visit to Germany as they stopped in Leipzig to tour Bach’s church and to Rothenberg where they visited castles. Because of the floods, they were unable to go to Dresden or Berlin.
Sandra loved driving through Germany, Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland as Wayne drove the two thousand miles through the country roads. The castles they visited were magnificent and the scenery was gorgeous according to Sandra.
Wayne, Lynn and Sandra rode a train up one of the mountains where they enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a restaurant overlooking the mountain. Lynn told me that they had excellent weather during their trip and Switzerland was actually quite warm.
Earl and Rosemarie MacCartney recently returned from a three thousand mile road trip to North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Their first stop was in Raleigh, North Carolina where they visited friends at their lake house on Lake Gaston. They had fun boating, attending a Durham Bulls baseball game and enjoying the beautiful weather.
The MacCartneys attended the wedding of Rosemarie’s nephew in Allentown, Pennsylvania. They enjoyed the beautiful wedding and reception. Earl and Rosemarie had a great time partying, eating and celebrating with their family during the weekend. During a side trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania they toured a pretzel factory where they purchased pretzels to bring home with them. Rosemarie told me the trip through the Amish area of Lancaster County was very interesting.
In Mansfield, Ohio Earl and Rosemarie visited with Earl’s family. While they were visiting Earl’s niece at her farm she took them on a ride in a wagon pulled by two horses through their little town of Sulphur Springs. The MacCartneys had a great time visiting their families and friends up north and were glad to make it back home safe and sound. Their trip had a rocky beginning when they experienced car trouble less than two hours from Montgomery!
The Cape Conroe Ladies' Society Birthday Lunch Bunch enjoyed a delicious lunch at the China Lake Restaurant last week. Birthday honorees Jane Laake, Cile Murray and Helen White attended. Also attending were Betty Laird, Rosemarie MacCartney, Pat Wren, Iona Powell, Olivia Roberts, Evelyn Parzyck, Lynn Coffman, Stella Stout and I.
Saturday, September 7th at 9:30 a.m. the Cape Conroe Mens' Club will meet at the clubhouse. Plan to attend and enjoy a cup of coffee, donuts, an interesting program and fellowship with your neighbors.
Wednesday, September 11th is the monthly meeting of the Cape Conroe Property Owners' Association Board of Directors at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. Plan to attend and take an active part in our community.
Until next week - take care, be safe and give someone a hug! Have a Great Week!
