Deacon Pete Sechelski passed away on August 10, 2004 on his 74th birthday.
This man of God will be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting
him. He was our Deacon at St Mary's and St. Joseph's Catholic Communities and
we are missing him already. He loved everybody and everybody loved him. He
helped so many people in so many ways. His wake service and Rosary were
held Thursday evening at St. Mary's Church. The Church was full to overflowing.
I arrived early and I was still in the standing room only part of the Church and
didn't mind one bit being there. I was told his funeral was also well attended with people spilling out of the Church. We will all miss Deacon Pete and are so thankful to all his family for sharing him with all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with this dear man's family.
Our neighbors, Neil and Ginny Goza, just returned from a road trip to Alaska.
They had a very good time and sent us pretty postcards along their way.
I have a kitchen magnet from Alaska which Ginny delivered to me when they
got home again. Maybe the cooler weather we have been having followed them
home. I say thanks for that neighbors !!! This has been unbelievable August weather. Of course, it's not over yet.
Betty Kerr's granddaughter, Jill Wagner, visited her for a few days last week. I'm sorry I missed seeing Jill, that's when I had my grandkids. Her grandma took her on an early birthday shopping spree, as her birthday will be in September. They found her some school clothes and had a nice lunch at Goodson's Cafe in Tomball. Jill will be a Senior this year and we hope she has a fun year.
Betty also had her grandson, Jared Wagner, cousin to Jill, for a few days. Jared is getting to be quite a handsome young man. He will be going into Jr. High this year. While he was visiting he had to make a run with Betty to Holder's for his favorite hamburger. We wish him a good school year also.
BIRTHDAYS:
Lots of August birthdays to report this week. August 17th will be a special day for Megan Jones, granddaughter of Emmett and Debbie Jones, as she will turn 10 years old on that day. Megan is a very pretty young lady whom we have been seeing off and on since she was born. She will be in the 5th grade at Spendora ISD this year. Trey Hoffart, son of Jeff and grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hoffart will be turning 14 on August 23rd and attends Montgomery ISD. Happy 14th to you, Trey. On the next day August 24th, his Aunt Gail Sowell will celebrate her birthday and on the 25th Aunt Debbie Hoffart will celebrate her special day. On August 26th their cousin, Mike Brimberry has his celebration. August 28th is the 40th birthday to our butcher at Hoffart's, Alberto. We wish him a happy birthday. Also on the 28th I believe I heard that Othella McShan celebrates her birthday. We hope she has a nice one, because she has been undergoing dental work and most of us know how uncomfortable that can be, right? Some more birthdays in August are Timothy Wayne Washington,
his grandmother, Bertha Mae, and also Willie Mae from Montgomery. For these and
all August birthday people our best wishes are with you all.
Now for a special August 14th birthday, I would like to tell you about my mother's 94th birthday weekend. I was lucky enough to spend Friday afternoon until early Monday morning with my mother in Houston this past weekend. Saturday was her 94th birthday, August 14, 2004. We spent Friday evening watching the lovely opening of the Olympics in Greece and eating chocolates and licorice candy (not too much). We were very impressed with all the different people marching in and thought it was a lovely program. On Saturday without any planning on anyone's part, we ended up having a party as my sister Mary and husband Dave and grandchild Nicholas Stevens dropped by with a yummy coconut cake Mary baked and a small but colorful cake Nicholas brought with a tablecloth, plates, napkins and cups supplied by Mary. Next comes our sister,
Therese with daughter, Tina, some pretty cupcakes and mother's Sunday paper, followed by our brother, Humphrey and his wife, Linda, who has so graciously shared this birthday day with our mother all through the years. Humphrey and Linda were returning from atrip to Galveston and called to say "Happy Birthday" to mother who in turn told them tocome by and join in the celebration. We had 5 choices of desserts to choose from as Sarah Kate & Ty had sent an angel food cake they made for her and Nicholas had already left a cute and yummy little pound cake earlier. We sang "Happy Birthday" about 3 times and took pictures. It was a fun get together and was over before too long. Our mother received phone calls all morning and into the evening, she had received cards with money, presents and when everyone was gone, a big beautiful bouquet of all sizes, all colors and a wide variety of flowers was delivered to her from our brother
Tom and his wife, Sandy, and their children and grandchild. I wish I could show you a picture, but take my word it is beautiful and has 2 mylar balloons with the arrangement. I love mylar balloons. They just bounce around and make you feel happy. So, we saw or talked with all of her children over the weekend and I do believe it was just the kind of 94th birthday she wanted.
We talked to Bernie in Oregon, Joe in New York, Tom in Kyle, Texas and all the rest in Houston. Our brother Charlie was at the hospital with his wife, Josephine, who is having some bad problems with her legs. We are hoping they can help her with that and she will be home again soon. Charlie is the oldest of all of us and stepped in when our father died at 63 yrs old and guided the younger ones on to adulthood. I was already married and had 3 little ones at the time. Of course, there's lots more to the story, but that's enough for now.
School is on again. I heard the traffic was a mess in Montgomery the first morning, and probably will be every day. I would just let my kids ride the bus, which is what they did. The bus comes right in front of our house and we pay the taxes for that service. Riding the bus is as much a part of education as reading and writing. If you can survive getting along on the bus, you will be ready for life. Maybe that's just my opinion. See you next week. |
