Who We Are

Update about Mary Ann (Smith) Posiniski

I just got an update from my sister, Therese, about her friend Mary Ann (Smith) Posiniski.Mary Ann and Buster Posinski are proud grandparents. Her daughter, Luanne and soninlaw Tim Johnson had a baby boy, Zachary Alan who was born August 11th and weighed 3 lbs.14oz. Zachary was able to go home on August 23rd. He is gaining weight steadily and seems a little spoiled from all the attention and love the nurses gave him in the hospital.
Thanks for all your prayers.
We are so happy to hear this news and I also thank everyone who reads and helps us pray for those who need them. We all need prayers.
It seems I once again missed the big event in Dobbin last week. For the last 2 years a group of guys, including my husband, 2 sons, their school band leader and several more friends gathered at Nicky Herzog's place to participate in an event that they are very serious about. It seems they have been getting together around this time every year for several years to draw numbers and then proceed to pick out a bunch of football players, each to be their own team. Every week each one is responsible for keeping up with their players and teams and making changes when players get hurt or their team isn't playing. Does it sound like fun yet? How many men are reading this column? I don't even know if I explained it right, but this is what they call "Fantasy Football". It seems harmless enough, and it does keep them home watching all these games so they can keep up with their own men and teams. They may not be paying much attention to us, but they are home all weekend. Hope this makes up for not mentioning this spectacular event that went on in Dobbin last weekend. They were served a good meal by Nicky and Robin. I even had a hamburger from there when I got home from my shop till I dropped trip that day. I thank them for that. No cooking that night.
I was sorry to hear that Ruth Lee Jones has been in the hospital. I have known
Ruth Lee since we moved to Dobbin as she was a customer of ours when we ran
Hilltop Drive In Grocery. I see her quite often at Hoffart's now and am always happy to see her. Ruth Lee and Della Mae (Pete) Jones were such a help to us when we had wedding receptions and anniversary parties. They made the meal so much easier for us and we had no worries about it being served smoothly.
I want to wish Ruth Lee a good recovery and let her know we will all keep her in
our thoughts and prayers.
Another lady I've known for years came by Hoffart's the other day with her pretty granddaughter and adorable great granddaughter. Mrs. Eleanore Lane has been through quite a lot these last years, but she was looking so pretty and as usual giving out compliments. She seems to be one of my dedicated readers of this column and I thank her for her kind words. It was so good to see her again.
I was told Debbie Mahon made it home from the hospital after knee surgery
already on Saturday. That was a surprise to me as I thought she would be gone
much longer. I hope all goes well with her recovery. I will be filling in for her at the store as much as I can while she recovers. We wish her well.
Marie Cook and family want to send their love and Happy Birthday wishes to
her daughter, Donelle Edwards on September 12th and her son, Darrell Gordon
on September 29th. She also wants them to know they aren't getting older,
just getting better. We also send our best wishes to them both.
I attended another lovely luncheon with some of my classmates from Incarnate Word Academy in Houston, Class of 1959. This one was held in the Heights in Houston at the home of our most lovely hostess, Sonja Hlavaty Novo. She was the leader of our Sodality in our Senior year and most deserving of the honor. She is as beautiful a person today as she was then. Sonja has a beautiful Victorian home and it is just as lovely on the inside. We had a covered dish lunch and it all blended in so pretty on her beautiful china plates. Everything was delicious. This was our last get together before our upcoming 45th Reunion which will be in November. Several of us have been working on contacting all of our classmates and are hoping for a really good turnout at the Omni Hotel in Houston in November. I will update you on that event for sure.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day Weekend. I'm sure the Bazaar at St. Mary's was a huge success. I baked 3 dozen kolaches for the Kolache Booth. I didn't attend the Bazaar as I spent Sunday and Monday with my mother, Mary Hughes,in Houston. I wrote this on Sunday before I left. I will see you here next week.
