Follow-up on the Payne/Haynes/Hubbard Family Reunion. Now this is what I call a well planned Reunion
Jerome & Karl will be playing and singing at Holder's Grub Wagon in Dobbin this coming Saturday, September 25, 2004 starting at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and have a good meal and enjoy some good Country music. There was a great turnout last time and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
This is a followup on the Payne/Haynes/Hubbard Family Reunion. Now this is what I call a well planned Reunion. I was told over 200 people attended throughout the day, people of all colors attended including Chinese and two from Africa. The food was plentiful with BBQ of all kinds, turkey and dressing, chicken, all types of salads, greens and pork bones. The desserts included all kinds of cakes, pies and banana pudding. They had a raffle for prizes, a volleyball tournament, a potato race, an egg race, a water balloon toss and for the little children they stacked up hay and had hidden toys inside. They got 3 minutes to hunt for the toys. This was lots of fun for the little ones. I was really impressed with how well this party was planned. I congratulate those who organized this reunion. I know this took a lot of thought and work and it all turned out so well. Willie Payne Mills was good enough to give me this information along with one of her daughters.
My sister, Mary, from Walden drove me to the Woodlands Mall on Saturday and we found the perfect outfit for my upcoming 45th High School Reunion from Incarnate Word Academy which will be held in November. It was an enjoyable shopping trip and it was topped off by a yummy sandwich at Subway. She said her husband Dave told her to buy me lunch. What a brotherinlaw! Thanks, Dave.
The cruise I'm going on with my sister, Pat, will be coming up the first week in October. I am ready for that now that I made a visit to Vonda, the hairdresser, in Dacus. Vonda has been doing hair in Dacus for years now. Every time I leave from her place I know she feels like she worked a miracle, because she does. I get so many compliments on my hair aft r she works on it. This perm is no exception. So with my hair done and my clothes bought and ironed and ready to pack, we only have to hope those hurricanes and storms play their selves out before Oct. 4th.
A beautiful little baby girl was born September 7, 2004. Her name is Harlee Rashel and she weighed 8 lbs 1 oz. Harlee is the daughter of Sonya Rashel Sharp and Trevor Stephen Christiansen. Sonya is the daughter of Stacy and Garry Sharp, Jr. and the granddaughter of our excoworker, Bertha Ann Sharp. Harlee Rashel was born the day before her grandpa's birthday (Garry, Jr. celebrated his on September 8th). Congratulations to this family on this new little one.
A belated birthday wish goes out to Rick Herzog, husband of Barbara, and brother of Betty Kerr. He turned 56 on September 12th and he and his wife went out to eat after Mass on Saturday night for a little celebration of this event. He's still a young man. Rick has coffee with Mr. Hoffart every Saturday morning at the store and they do their best to solve some of the problems of the world.
Several September birthdays were reported to me this past week. Kendra Lashae Jones had a birthday on September 20th and is the daughter of Rueben and Alma Jones III and granddaughter of Bertha Mae Washington and Horace Washington. Also celebrating on September 20th is Annie Mae Mills, wife of Roger Mills of Dobbin. Mike Martin had his birthday on September 22nd and Carol Reissig and Melinda Sue Carrell both celebrate on September 27th. We wish all of these a very happy birthday, some late and some early.
September wedding anniversaries in Dobbin include my sisterinlaw and brotherinlaw, Pinkie and Nathan Savoy who will celebrate their 39th on September 25th and good friends Charles and Aleen Mock who celebrated their 38th on September 17th. Some of us manage to stay married these days. Congratulations to both these couples and many more years to come.
Charles and Aleen Mock picked up my daughter, Jacque, on their wedding anniversary, Friday, and they all drove up to the Mock's daughter's place in Coleman, Texas. Jacque went all through the Montgomery Schools with Merideth and they have stayed in touch through all the years since. No one knew Jacque was coming with them, so everyone was happily surprised. Last year Jacque worked with them on their bird lease and really enjoyed her time up there. Meridith and Ben Taylor and their children, Nathan and Megan, welcomed her into their home and they spent a lovely weekend together. It is nice to keep old friend through the years, even if you don't see them often. They are always in your heart.
I got a call on Sunday night about 9:30 p.m. and wondered who would be calling that late. It was my daughter, Janette, telling me her son, Michael, our grandson, had to have 6 stitches above his eye. It seems he was playing and tripped and hit the coffee table. We all know about coffee tables and children. Anyway, they were lucky and didn't have to spend hours at the emergency room. She said the whole ordeal was over in a couple of hours and he was fine, playing while she talked to me. Michael is such a cute little boy a little scar won't hurt anything. We are all just glad he is ok.
Let me know some of your local news about your family. I know there are more stories out there that I could talk about in this column. I can't be the only one that likes to brag about family. Drop me a note in Mock's box or in Hoffart's box. See you right here next week. |
