Special Birthdays

As you are reading this I will be in the middle of my "cruise" with my sister, Pat Kirk.I know we are having a lovely time and will fill you in next week, if I'm not too exhausted to write a column.
I have two special birthdays to report thanks to Willie Mills.
Mrs. Carrie Mae McShan was honored with a lovely 84th Birthday Luncheon which
was held at the Dobbin Community Center the week before last. All of her family came and many friends. They had a really nice lunch followed by a big beautiful birthday cake. Some spiritual music was provided by Rev. Lawrence and his son and Albert Byrd and his son, Rev. Byrd.
Mr. Jimmie Malone was given a luncheon for his 85th birthday last weekend and
it was attended by his family and friends. We hope he enjoyed his special day as he is a very special man.
Ms. Thelma McWashington celebrated her 87th birthday on Oct. 5, 2004. I sent her an angel food cake on Saturday the 2nd as I knew I wouldn't be there on the 5th. I heard she enjoyed that. I've known Ms. Thelma from way back and she always asked about my children whenever I saw her, which hasn't been for quite a while now.
Our good wishes go to all these birthday people who have been here in the Dobbin area for so long.
This birthday wish comes from the box at Mock's Store.
Happy Birthday on October 4, 2004, to Dena Hooper, a very good friend from far west Dobbin (Fetxer's area). May all the goodness that the world has to offer fall upon you on your very special day. Happy Birthday, Ms. Dena.
An announcement from Jr. and Linda Mock. Lee and Julie Mock of Houston, son and daughter in law of Jr. and Linda, are expecting their first child in February of 2005. This will be Jr.'s first grandchild. A whole new world will be opening up for them. Our best wishes to this new addition.
Marie Cook and her daughter have a special request to send out to all the servicemen out there protecting all of us here. They met a young man at the Wal Mart Smart Styles and overheard he had been to Bagdad and Iraq and would be returning. She asked him his name and he answers " my name is Cooper, mam" She said he was so polite. They also heard there is a young man over there who receives this paper every week and they would like to let them all know the people in Dobbin and Montgomery are wishing them all well and a speedy and healthy return home. All of the servicemen are in our thoughts and prayers.
The grandson of James Anderson from Giles Road is a Marine over in Iraq. I think I mentioned him when he was first in the service, his name is Jimmy Bills and we will keep him in our prayers as well as all the servicemen all over protecting all of us. It seems they have access to phones and emails nowadays, so they can be in touch a little closer than when our men were overseas. That has to help the families being able to keep up with them.
Mark Ivey is proud of his son Zach Ivey of the Flying I Ranch in Dobbin for winning the Grand Champion Shorhorn and Super Cow at the Tristate Fair in Amarillo and the Mid South Fair in Memphis, Tennessee last month. Zach will be going to the American Royal in Kansas City in October. Good luck to you there, Zach.
Continue to keep Kathy Stewart's dad in your prayers as he recuperates from hip
surgery.
Also please keep Debbie Mahon in your thoughts and prayers as she has been
having a very hard time recuperating from her knee surgery. We thought she was
doing better, but Saturday she was returning to the hospital. I hope things are
better for her at this writing.
Sorry, that's it for this week. See you next week, hopefully, with lots of exciting things to talk about.
