Halloween Dress Up Party
by Ann Smith

Holder's Grub (not Grubwagon anymore because the wheels have been removed) will be having a Halloween Dress Up Party this coming Saturday, October 30th, 2004.
Jerome and Karl will be there picking and grinning and invite you out to grab a biteto eat and listen to their good Country Music. See if you can be the funniest or the scariest dress up person. The music will be played starting at 5 pm until 8 p.m. Feel free to come out even if you don't want to dress up. It should be another good family time.
Betty Kerr wants to give us an update on her new great nephew & neice twins. If you remember I told you they were born early and would be in the hospital for a while. Well, they are home now and hopefully little Riley and Sam have settled in with their mother and dad, Kelly and Darren. We know the grandparents, Jannet and James, are doing their best to help out. Our congratulations and best wishes to this lovely family.
Happy Birthday wishes to Adrienne Krenek, daughter of Greg and Melanie Krenek. Adrienne's birthday is October 25th, 2004. She is a Sophomore at Texas A & M, studying Elementary Education. Her parents gave Adrienne a subscription to the Montgomery County News for her birthday so she can keep up with the local news. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ADRIENNE !!!!!!!!!
This day, October 25th is the special day for Marie Cook of Dobbin. Our best wishes to her today !!!!!
This weekend after all the Masses at St. Mary's in Plantersville the Guardian Angels will be having another Bake Sale. That means lots of homemade goodies to pick from for your Sunday dessert.
My heartfelt sympathies to a local family who lost their wife and mother this past week as the results of a car wreck on Jackson Rd. right outside of Dobbin. Paula was 44 yrs old and the mother of three young teenagers. I'm sure you can read about it in this issue of the newspaper. I can only tell you what a nice, lovely young woman she was as we knew her in the store as a friendly and patient customer. She was never in a hurry and always seemed so happy with life here in Dobbin. She will be truly missed.
James and I and our daughter, Jacque, attended a lovely wedding on October 23, 2004 at the new, beautiful Montgomery United Methodist Church on 105 in Montgomery. It was a Candlelight Ceremony uniting Amanda Rena, daughter of Mr. & Mrs Anthony Chance and Wayne Walter, son of Mr. & Mrs Walter Bohack in Marriage. The reception was held at Haven's Landing in Montgomery.
Our son, Jerome, was one of the handsome ushers at the wedding. Jerome and his wife, Amy, are good friends of the bride and groom. Their children, Sarah, Ty and Clayton, also attended and really enjoyed theirselves. The hall was decorated so pretty and the bride and groom's cakes were not only beautiful they were delicious. The food was also very tasty. They had a DJ with lots of different music and Jerome was asked to announce some of the songs and even sang a couple for them. One special song, The Chair, he sang to the Bride & Groom as it had special meaning to them. Chad Reed sold the Bride's shoe and then we did a Bride & Groom dance. The money collected should help them on their way. It was a lovely wedding and reception and a good tim was had by all. Our very best wishes to Wayne and Amanda as they start their married life.
Now for all of you who are anxiously awaiting more on "the cruise". Part two of "The Cruise".Wednesday, October 6th, 2004 I awoke to a beautiful sunlight beaming through the cabin window and land in sight. Cozumel, Mexico. Pat woke up around 9 am and we went to breakfast and then went for more postcards and stamps (the postcards have still not been delivered). Many of the people got off the boat and went on the different tours around the island. We stayed on and toured the boat without the crowd of people. We visited the library, which was very interesting, and roamed around the other rooms. The gambling rooms and the gift shops close down while the ship is docked, so we just snooped around while the crowds were gone.
We had watched the boat videos the night before of the Honeymoon Game they played with three couples on the boat. We ran into the youngest couple while we were exploring the boat and stopped them to talk about the video. They were cute on the show and we told them we enjoyed watching them. They were really on their honeymoon and actually had gotten married on the boat the first day. We saw some of that video too.
Back to the room we went to rest before lunch. At lunch we met the oldest couple from The Honeymoon video. They were really cute, too. They have been married 66 years and he said he was a retired preacher. One question they asked was if the man was on a deserted island and had a choice of being there with a nun or a hooker, which would he choose? The old man answered " a nun in the day and a hooker at night." Of course, everyone roared with laughter. He made a point to tell us they told him what to say, because of course, he was a retired minister. They just had to make the show funny.
We decided to check out the area they have for the children. They have a pretty pool for them and a place where some young ladies keep the smaller ones with videos and games. They had a place to play table tennis, which we use to do as youngsters. Since most of the children had left the boat, we decided to try out the table tennis, but the balls were sort of squashed and after chasing the first one, we decided to leave that alone. We took some pictures and back to the room for some more rest.
At dinner we found everyone doing well. Our Chinese sea sick lady was much better and her husband and son were so glad as we all were for her. Everyone but my sister, Pat, and I had gotten off the boat and really enjoyed their tours on the island but glad to be back on the boat and enjoying the delicious meal and company. We were seranaded by a real Mexican Mariachi Band. When they came to our table one of the men made a request and he sang right along with them. He tipped them $20. Then my sister, Pat, asked if they would play "Feliz Navidad" and everyone sang along with that one. It was fun and I tipped them $5. Last of the big spenders, I am. It was a fun evening for all. We returned to our cabin, put on our PJ's and watched more ship videos and a good TV movie. That's more our speed than the late night entertainment on the ship.

Playa de Carmen/Calica
Pat woke up first today and we had breakfast at the dining room where the waiters take your order. I like to do that. All the other mornings and lunches we went through the lines and picked out whatever we wanted. This morning the waiter seated us and a few minutes later he sat a young couple at the table with us. I thought maybe they were just friends, Pat thought they were newlyweds. Come to find out, they were married 18 years with no children (not by choice) and have one dog and snakes living with them. He owns a pet shop outside of San Antonio. They had been fishing yesterday and planned to go again today. We enjoyed their company during breakfast.
Pat and I walked around the ship some more and settled down in one of the rooms looking out on the island and read our books for about an hour. It was very relaxing. The water is so blue it almost seems artificial.
Back in our room we watched some more ship videos, picking out people we had met or seen around the ship. They never caught us as far as we could see. We talked with a lot of the people, as Pat really knows how to draw them into conversation.
The Wheelhouse Bar and Grill is the place we go to eat most of the time. There are different serving lines and you just go through and get everything you want. They have special places for the desserts. It's unbelievable all the food they serve. All the food has been paid for in the ticket and you can eat as much as you want. We got our lunch and sat by the window and watched the pretty scenery while we ate lunch.
Ever since the first night we had been noticing this one particular man who was always alone and always looking for someone. He never seemed to find anyone, and we figured by now he should have but he was still walking around looking and looking. We figured there was something strange about him. There probably was a story behind him, but we weren't going to talk to him to find out. He was too strange.
We had another good rest that afternoon and looked forward to dinner at the Vista Room (that's the name of the dining room we go to every evening). The ship left land about 4 pm and we went to dinner at 6:15 p.m. We had another delicious dinner, but our Chinese family was not there and we did miss them. The waiters put on another show for us singing and dancing. Then they formed a congo line and danced all around, selecting people to join them from their tables. I was picked and joined the congo line all around the dining room. Our head waiter followed me and his helper Michael helped some others dance around. It was fun. Another good evening and then back to the cabin for the night.
Next week I will conclude my report of "The Cruise".
I saw my mother on Sunday and she had me carve out a pumpkin she was given that she had on her little patio. I am proud to say I remembered how to do it. I gave it a funny face and remembered how to cut out the top. There is a trick to that, because if you don't do it right the top will fall right into the pumpkin. James is a good teacher, as he showed me last year and I remembered the slant. Mother was happy, that's what counts. From mother's I drove by myself on I 10 from Bingle to 59 Cleveland and I got off Hwy 59 at 242. I found my way to my daughter Janette's home and joined her Pampered Chef's Party. I was only 1/2 hour late. I was proud of myself for making the trip on the freeway all by myself. We had a really good time at the Party. Good food and fun games. What a weekend!! See you all next week.
