Who We Are

November 3, 2004

Have a good Halloween
by Ann Smith

Everyone seemed to have a good Halloween. We had lots of little ghost and goblins come to Smith Rd. We always enjoy seeing the little ones and some big ones too.
I would like to tell you about a young man attending Montgomery High School.
His name is Victor Webb. Victor was selected to play on the All Star Football Team called Team Texas. Victor will also represent the State of Texas in the nation wide event. Teams are expected from as many as 12 states. Victor plays Defensive Tackle and TightEnd. In the past he has also played Full Back.
Academically Victor holds a 3.65 GPA. He also was Class President in 1998. Victor has received many awards. 1997TAAS Test Academic Recognition, Member of the YMCA since 1994 and Bear Backer Booster Club Member. Art Honorable Mention, 1999 Outstanding Achievements & Accomplishments.
Please help support Victor Webb by helping him get to the King Kamehameha Pigskin Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 7 June 14, 2005.
Victor's goals are to attend College and Major in Animal Science with Architect as a Minor. His long term goal is that he hopes to go on from College to play professional football. The following announcement is from Darren and Kelly Bielamowicz: After 75 days in the hospital, our two little pumpkins are home to stay. Riley Clare came into the world on July 30, 2004 at 12:45 a.m. She was 2 lbs 5 oz and was 14 inches long. We are proud to say that she is now 6 lbs 1 oz and is 18 inches long
Samuel Joseph came into the world on July 30, 2004 at 12.46 am. He was
2 lbs 11 oz and was 15 inches long. We are proud to say that he is now 7 lbs 3 oz and is 19 1/2 inches long. Twenty fingers, twenty toes, two sweet babies with cheeks of rose. Born the same day, two gifts from above, two special babies to snuggle and love. We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. God has truly answered each and every one.
Jannet and James Pavlock are the proud grandparents of these two little pumpkins. Betty Kerr is the great aunt who has been keeping us informed along with Debbie Hoffart who is their second cousin. We are so happy for this family to have their babies home with them.
Birthdays in November:
November 7th is the birthday of Adele Willis a lifelong resident of Dobbin who is very involved in the Community through her church and does a lot of work with
our local youth. We wish her the happiest of days. Adele shares this birthdate with her nephew, Wilbur Dean Edwards, son of Doretha and Rev. John Edwards. Our best wishes to him on his special day. November 9th is the birthday of Willie Miers and a special wish goes out to him from his wife, Cheri, who wants him to know he is the best husband she has ever married. (?) Willie is one of the people who helped me out when I had 2 pianos in my home and had to get rid of them. I hope my piano is happy in his building. Thanks for helping me out, Willie, and a very happy birthday to you.
My brother, Joe Hughes, celebrates his birthday November 10th and I certainly
want to wish him a very happy day. Joe is younger than I am and has been
retired already for a few years. He worked for the same company all through the
years since College, even though the name changed as they all seem to these days. Joe and his wife, Mary, and son Ed live up North in East Amherst, New York. He stays busy doing volunteer work for different school and church programs. He follows the debate team at one school and drives them to and from tournaments and judges some of the events. I am really proud of all he does and the fact that he writes my mother a 2 page typed letter every week without fail. She looks forward to that letter every week and makes sure everyone who comes by reads the letter. She also makes them all read this column.
My daughter, Jennifer, has finally gotten a full time job. She works in College Station at the Gambro Health Care Service as a Unit Secretary. She and her daughter, Melinda, also have just moved back into 177 Lake Estates and are happy there. Melinda wanted to help move the furniture and crushed her hand injuring the nerves and tendons. She will have to take some therapy to get her fingers going again. I wish Jennifer much success in her new job.
Now for the end of The Cruise:
We arrived at Galveston, Texas. I woke up at 6:30 am and stayed up. I got dressed and finished packing a few more things. My sister, Pat, reminded me to have my passport ready for checking out at immigration. I started looking for it and was not finding where I had put it. I was about to panick when I remembered to pray to St. Anthony and St. Jude. I always call on them when something is missing. I unpacked my suitcases and went through both purses twice. Pat even went through my purses with no luck. Finally, she decided to look through her boarding passes in her purse and there it was, thank goodness. If I hadn't remembered to pray to the saints, I think I would have had a stress attack. I did remember to pray to them again to thank them for listening and
helping us find the passport.
We decided to call her daughters and my husband to let them know we were back in
Galveston. We were all packed and ready to go to immigration when our color would be called. In the meantime, we went to eat our last meal on the ship. We had a pleasant breakfast with a couple and their cute little daughter. They were from Oklahoma and had a really nice cruise as a family. The little girl kept looking at Pat, she must have know she is Nana. After breakfast we decided to just get in the long line and sure enough by the time we got
close to the checkout people they called our color. We check through ok and went back to our room for the last time, gathered our luggage and off we went on our way off the boat. We called Chrissy and she was there in no time, picked us and our luggage up and off to Houston we headed.
Back in Houston we made plans to watch Pat's little grandson, Grant, while his mother, Tricia and sister Claire attended a birthday party at the mall at a place called "The little diva". Claire came home with her hair 3 colors and sprinkles in her hair. She had her toes and fingernails done and was quite the "little diva". She loved the little sailor cap we bought for Grant, looking at him she laughed and laughed, saying "Grant, you are a little sailor, how cute." We gave her a little Nemo magical book and pen and she began coloring right away. I was told later she just kept on coloring and coloring. I enjoyed being around my little great niece and nephew. Pat is a good Nana to them.
Back to Pat's house we decided to watch a little TV while we waited for Jacque to get back from the Astro game to drive me back to Dobbin. I had a really lovely time, but as the saying goes, after a fun trip, "there is no place like home".
Now, I hope I haven't bored you all with all my personal stuff. I hope maybe some of you out there want to share some of your fun times with us. Don't forget, I have a box at Mock's Store (which has been mighty empty lately) and also at Hoffart's just waiting for some local good news. See you next week, when I will report on my 45th High School Reunion.
