Deer Season is upon us
by Ann Smith
Deer Season is upon us once again. Hoffart's Processing is in full swing, busy, busy, busy !!!!! This is the time of year when you may come into the store and find us a bit frazzled. At times it all gets to be a little too much. We have our regular customers to wait on, plus people coming in to drop off their deer to be processed, plus the phone ringing off the wall with questions about when they can come in, how much does it cost, do we sell licenses. Then on top of that we have people wanting their regular animals processed, cows, bulls, goats, sheep, and hogs. We do some of them in between the deer, but cannot handle a lot during this season. It always seems some cannot wait and we end up almost overloaded. Somehow we always manage to make it through the season, but if you do come in and see us, you may think we won't. Just be patient, we will get it all done in time.
I would like to tell you about a new project that I have become involved in at St. Mary's Church in Plantersville, Texas. It is called St. Mary's Corner Shoppe. It is well stocked with gifts for all occasions including the following: Advent Calendars, wreaths and candles, and Advent calendars. Christmas Ornaments, Nativity sets, stocking stuffers Gifts Rosaries, Rosary bracelets, sterling silver pendants (men and women), baby items, holy water fonts, statues. Home decor Crucifixes, Crosses, framed wall art and Willow Tree Angels Books Bibles, prayer books, adult, teen and children books, prayer cards and book marks C D's Many beautiful songs sung, some we sing in church. I personally encourage anyone interested in Religious Articles to make a trip to St. Mary's and get a look at our Corner Shoppe. It is available during the week if you go by the office someone will let you in and after all the masses at St. Mary's including Saturday, 5:30 pm, Sunday after 9:00 am Mass and after 10.30 am Mass. I know you will be pleasantly surprised with the Corner Shoppe and their reasonable prices.
Mrs. Mattie Stark was due to have eye surgery at 92 years old. She is quite prepared for this surgery because she is anxious to get back to driving herself around. Mrs. Stark is the mother of Marie Cook of Dobbin and we would like you to keep her in your prayers as she recuperates from her eye surgery. Marie is also under the weather and could use a few words of comfort and some prayers.
I spent the afternoon and evening with my brother in law, Dave, as my sister needed to be helping their daughter move into her new office building. Dave had hip surgery last Tuesday and just came home on Friday, so he didn't need to be alone. I have known Dave for over 40 years, but never had a whole lot of conversations with him before this day. We got along just fine as if we had been visiting all these years. We were very comfortable with each other. We watched the A&M game on TV and that was quite a game, even though I talked right through some of the action. He didn't seem to mind as he could see what was going on all the time. We watched The Wheel of Fortune and took turns guessing the answers. Then we watched Magnum Force that will keep you on the edge of your seat. That Clint Eastwood is such a good actor. You could just feel how he must hurt when he got all beat up. But he survived in the end, and I was worn out from all the shooting and murders. It was a good show, as all his shows are to me. Mary came home about 9:30 and I headed for Dobbin.
I had a nice visit with my mother Sunday afternoon and evening. We had a visit from my sister, Ginny, who brought my mother a couple of early holiday treats. She was very happy with them. Ginny's friend, David, came in to meet mother and he was very sweet to her. He then looked at her wall in her living room, which holds a picture of our mother and dad and all 13 of us in order with our High School pictures. It sort of took his breath away. It is something to look at and to know we are all still alive, except for our dad. He is very much alive in all of our memories.
There are a lot of November birthdays. Mrs. Rosa Herzog will celebrate her 92nd birthday on November 17th. She is Mrs Dolores Hoffart's mother and grandmother and great grandmother to lots of children. We hope she has a very happy day. I have lots more to announce Sandra Hughes from Kyle, Texas on the 3rd, her son Chuck Hughes on the 6th, Grant & Wes Stringfellow celebrate this month along with Thomas Harper on the 7th, November 4th Jessica Sanchez, November 10th Amanda Sanchez and also in November their sister Tiffany Sanchez (all cousins to my granddaughter Melinda Carrell), my sister, Ginny Rich, turns 50 this month (I just don't believe this, but it's true), and last but not least my Godchild, Heather Marie Kirk on November 27th. Heather is a new Assistant Principal in the Aldine School District and is also a new homeowner, Congratulations and Best Wishes to you, Heather, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL NOVEMBER BIRTHDAY PEOPLE.
Two November Anniversaries: November 21st is the Anniversary of my Godson, Tom and his wife, Jill Stevens. They are the proud parents of two beautiful sons, Nicholas and Tony. November 24th my sister, Winnie and her husband, Pat Williamson will celebrate their Anniversary and our best wishes go out to both of these couples.
I hope everyone is gearing up to celebrate Thanksgiving with someone they love. See you next week
