HAPPY THANKSGIVING
by Ann Smith

I want to wish everyone who reads this column a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wish for all of you would be that you spend this day with someone you care about. I also wish that you have all the traditional thanksgiving foods and that you take time to thank the One who has made this all possible for all of us. Also remember all the service people who have to be away from their families protecting all of us. We must also remember those working people who have to work on Thanksgiving at their various jobs and hopefully they can have their meal with their loved ones another time.
Mrs. Rosa Herzog had a nice birthday lunch with her son, Darrell, on November 17th at the Canterbury Villa where she now lives. In the evening her grandson-in-law, Sheriff Don Sowell went by with his birthday wishes for her. On
Saturday, November 20th, her grandson, Jeff Hoffart and his wife Adrienne, went to eat Thanksgiving Dinner with her and had a very enjoyable visit with her. The family is planning on having Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Rosa's home in Dobbin with those who can be with her on that day. Rosa's sister, Cecile McIntyre, from Navasota has her daughter visiting from Munich, Germany. Jan and husband, Gunter Walz, along with Cecile and Annie Rosilier, Rosa's other sister came by the store on Saturday to visit with Mr. Hoffart, Darrell and Debbie Hoffart during the rain. On Sunday they will meet at the famous "Heritage House Restaurant" in Montgomery and have a nice visit with Frank and Dolores Hoffart, Darrell Herzog and Debbie Hoffart and Barbara Faughn. Probably more will be there, and I'm sure it will be a fun time for all.
I somehow missed a special November Wedding Anniversary. My niece, Stephanie and her cute husband, Kenny, had their anniversary on November 18th. Unfortunately, Kenny had to leave for Nigeria last Sunday, so I hope they celebrated before he left. Stephanie is the daughter of my sister, Mary and husband Dave Stevens from Walden. Stephanie is moving into her own practice in Houston. She is a psycho-therapist and has been very busy getting into her new office. We wish her much success in this new venture. Her husband, Kenny, has just recently gone to work for a large corporation and works in a teamwork building leader-training position. That is what he is doing in Nigeria and Stephanie is hoping he will be home mid-December. What a busy couple with two careers like that. I am proud of them both. Stephanie is a beautiful young woman and her husband is a good-looking man. (He reminds me of one of the wrestlers we watch all the time). Our best wishes to this lovely couple.
Willie Miers reported to me that his lovely wife is home recuperating from surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope they are up to a lovely thanksgiving together. We wish all the sick ones out their speedy recoveries and will keep them all in our prayers.
We have lost three special people this past week.
Mr. E. Chester Broussard, father of Pam Poole and special father-in-law of Ray Poole, passed away at the age of 91. This man has only lived here for four years, since the death of his wife. In the four years he has been here, he has endeared himself to so many of us. Once you met this man, you would not see him again without receiving one of his special hugs. From the smallest of children to the oldest of adults he will be greatly missed by all. We thank the Poole family for sharing him with us. St. Mary's Church members will surely miss this fine gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.
Mr. Ken Nichols, formerly of Dobbin, passed away at his home in Conroe this past week. His grandson, Thomas Myers, had given him a great big birthday party this year and wrote a really nice article about his life. It was very interesting and I know Mr. Nichols was proud of Thomas for doing all of that for him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.
At early mass at St. Joseph's on Sunday Mr. Hoffart informed me that one of our good customers, Wardell Ruckett from Blackberry Community in Plantersville had passed away on Saturday night. Wardell was a really hard working man and a preacher at his church. We will miss Wardell as he came in the store often. Our sympathies to all of his family. I hope to have more details next week.
Everyone is always asking about the deer that come in to the store. We have taken in quite a lot but they want to hear about "the big one". Well, last week "it" came in to Hoffart's. It was killed in a field located on Long Street in Willis and had 12 points. It was a big one, but the man came back the next day and picked up the head for the taxidermist, so we don't have it to show off anymore.
The 2004 Holiday Postage Stamps are available at our Dobbin Post Office now.
One of them is called "Madonna and Child" by Lorenzo Monaco. One of them is called "Kwanzaa". This one commemorates a non-religious African American holiday that takes place over 7 days from Dec. 26 to Jan 1. Its origins are in harvest celebrations that occurred in ancient and modern times in various places across the African continent. One is called "Holiday Ornaments" and they feature painted glass Santa ornaments. Nestled in tissue paper, these shiny Santa's evoke happy memories of lights, tinsel and other favorite Christmas tree decorations. In addition to these stamps, the 2003 Holiday Music Makers and the Eid stamps continue to be available for purchase this holiday season.
Stop by and look at the beautiful selection of stamps to put on your Christmas cards.
ONCE MORE, A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
