Who We Are

December 8, 2004

Holliday Spirit
by Ann Smith

Hello everyone! I hope you all are in the Holiday Spirit and not getting
Too rushed and therefore ruining the true meaning of the coming Holy day.
I went to Mock's store on Saturday to see if there was any news in my box.
Much to my surprise, there was a big piece of paper with writing on it waiting
for me, and I was excited. When I read it I got a little teary eyed. I want to
share it with you.

To Ann Smith dated Nov. 12, 2004

Jo Adair Gregg is not able to get out to visit any more, but, the Dobbin News
is still her favorite column to read in the paper. We read it over and over
till the next issue comes , I thought it would be nice if she could read her name in the column. Thank you.
Isn't that the sweetest note? I know Mrs. Jo Gregg, but haven't seen her for
years. I must find out if she is still in her home here in Dobbin because I would love to visit with her. She was always such a sweet lady whenever I ran into her. I know she worked a long time. She is the grandmother to John Davis who went to school with my oldest son, Jim. It tickles me that she enjoys my column. I will try to keep on writing and hope it stays interesting to all of you loyal fans of mine.
I want to send my best wishes to Mrs. Gregg for a happy holiday season and
thank you very much for the kind words from whoever wrote the nice note to me.
While at Mock's store, I also was told that Don Ashworth had a serious heart
attack on Saturday evening and is in the Conroe Hospital. Please keep him
in your thoughts and prayers.
Also from Mock's I learned Saturday, Dec. 4th was the birthday of Mickey Mock.
He was working that afternoon and I wished him a Happy Birthday.
December is a busy month for my family with three birthdays. My youngest
daughter, Jacquelyn Irene Smith, has a December 2nd birthday, son, Jerome Isaac
Smith celebrated his on the 4th of December with a dinner prepared by his
lovely wife,Amy. I was invited over as James was deer hunting, and we sat down to a pretty table and was served salad and chicken spaghetti and tea with a birthday cake for dessert. I got to sit next to Jerome on one side and Clayton on the other. Clayton turned to me and said "I like sitting next to you, Grannie." Ty sat across from me and Sarah next to him with Amy at the end across from Jerome at the other end. I just know you all are enjoying all these details. It was a lovely birthday dinner with the older two on their very best behavior. Sarah helped her mother set up the table and clear it away.
Ty did his best to get Clayton to use his best manners and not say thing he shouldn't say. It was cute listening to them all.
Janette Irene Smith Arellano had her birthday on December 5th and spent most of the weekend with her sister, Jacque, decorating and shopping for our family Christmas which will be held at Janette & Alex's home this year. Jacque decided for her birthday that she would celebrate on Sunday evening by going to see Dolly Parton at the Toyota Center in Houston. She invited me and her friend from College, Tina Barrett, and we ended up asking my sister, Therese, because Janette couldn't go at the last minute. We all met up and went to eat at Chili's and then off to the concert. Dolly was just marvelous, she is such a good entertainer. She looked beautiful and put on a wonderful show. Thanks, Jacque, for including me.
I was informed of the death of two people who were born around Dobbin. On December 4, 2004 they buried "Ms. Mattie", who was 89 yrs. old. in Hempstead, Texas at St. Patrick's Church. Mr. Seymore (Billy) Lackey, Jr.'s services were held at St.
Matthew's Baptist Church in Magnolia with Emory Berry, Jr., Pastor assisting. Mr. Lackey was a grandson of Robert Payne.
We were all upset over the bad wreck that occurred on Hwy. 105 last week holding up traffic on the highway for over 5 hours. We all must stop and think about how quickly a life can end. Please keep aware of everything around you when you are driving a vehicle. Someone could be driving just right, but if you aren't aware of what's coming at you or on the side of you, it just takes an instant for a wreck to happen. We must always driving defensively. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man who died in Dobbin. Also for the driver of the truck who did all he could to avoid this tragedy.
