Congratulations go out to Eric Giles
by Ann Smith
Hello friends of Dobbin. I step into big shoes this week as I fillin for my mother. It is only fitting, since I am the one who committed her to this column. Do not fear, she will be back next week and will include any news that we missed this week.
Congratulations go out to Eric Giles who graduated from ITT Technical Institute on Thursday, December 9. Making the trip to graduation were his mother, Lynn Deaton, Aunt Debbie Hoffart, Barbara Faughn, Aunt Carol Reissig with Reese and Ryan and Eric's girlfriend. (Mom did not give me her name.) We all wish Eric much luck in his job search.
Get well wishes go out to my Grandma Hughes who has been feeling a little "under the weather" these past few days. Grandma is 94 years old and lives by herself. Several of her children take turns checking in with her to make sure she has everything that she needs and is feeling well. Friday was Mom's day and at Grandma's request, she has remained there until Grandma feels a little stronger.
Mom has enjoyed her stay in Houston, taking time to mail out over 80 Christmas Cards. She actually ran out of cards so the last names on her list are getting a letter. She has also been baking Christmas Cutout cookies and decorating them. This is a tradition that Grandma has passed down to my Mom. Grandma always baked for the holidays and I, for one, have some fond memories of the stuff that she baked up.
I visited Dobbin this weekend and must say that I am very impressed with all of the decoration that I saw around town. Congratulations to all of you who have decorated your homes and lawns for Christmas. Dobbin is shinning bright. Good job!!!
My family will gather at my sister Janette's this Saturday to celebrate Christmas. We will have a cake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus before opening presents. I hope that you will all take time this holiday to remember the Reason for the Season. Please remember all of those who are defending our country and will not be home for the holidays. Please also remember the elderly and those who have a tough time during the holidays for whatever reason.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
