Merry Christmas everyone!
by Ann Smith
Merry Christmas everyone! I am back and my mother has been doing better according to those who have stayed with her since I left. We hope she is much better for the Holidays. I wish her a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us.
I will catch up on some of my local news now. Leslie Griffith is at home after surgery and is doing well according to her daughter. Our best wishes go out to her and all her family for the holiday season.
Makenzie Lynn Griffith, 8-month-old granddaughter of Johnny and Connie Griffith, will be at their home on Christmas day along with her parents, Slade and Julie Griffith. Slade and Julie are both teachers in Leander, Texas. Slade is also a coach there. Makenzie is a beautiful baby and her grandparents are very proud of her.
The above mentioned Griffith's are all part of the family I mentioned back in the summer, I believe. They are part of the first families who came to Dobbin so they are carrying on the family name. History in the making.
December 8th was the birthday of Jerry Hammack and his family sends their love and hopes he had a good day and many more to come. They also send birthday wishes to Crystal Hall whose birthday was December 10th. Jasper Hall grandson of Jerry and Penny Hammack will be having ear surgery and all the family wish him a speedy recovery from that.
On Saturday, December 18th, the James I. Smith Family gathered at the home of Alex and Janette Smith Arellano and son,Michael, who live out by New Caney. They served a lasagna and salad meal and desserts followed. After the meal, we all gathered around and sang "Happy Birthday to Jesus" over a tray of individually gold wrapped miniature cheesecakes. Following that we all opened a few present and shared some laughter. We took pictures, of course, hopefully we got all of the grandchildren looking good and not funny faces, which usually happens. I gave all the family a little hanging angel ornament with each one's name on the angel. That was the surprise I talked about in the summer. I bought them at the Old Schoolhouse shop in Montgomery. Everyone liked his or her angel.
This family gathering included James and I, our oldest son, Jim and wife, Jeanie and children, Brandon, Emily, Benjamin and Sophia, our daughter, Jennifer and her daughter, Melinda, along with their friends, Adam and his daughters, Skylar and Hailey, our son, Jerome and wife, Amy, and children Sarah, Ty and Clayton, our daughter, Janette and her husband, Alex, and son Michael, and our daughter, Jacquelyn. It was a beautiful family Christmas get together. Thank you, Jesus.
I want to send my special congratulations to Eric Giles on his graduation from ITT Technical Institute receiving his Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer and Electronics Technology. We are proud of his accomplishments and know all his family is, especially his girlfriend, Traci. We hope he finds a good job real soon.
On Sunday, December 19th, most of our family joined more family and friends in Houston to celebrate the graduation of our niece, Tina Marie Palermo, from A&M University with a Theatre Arts degree. We had a meal of BBQ and all the trimmings. Everything was decorated in the A&M colors. We were in charge of blowing up and tying up the white and maroon balloons and decorating the tables with them. We took a picture with all the Hughes families and almost took up ½ a room. It was a fun time and Tina was a most gracious honoree. She and her mother both thanked everyone for coming and supporting Tina all along the way. She looked adorable and told us all her dream is to one day own her own theatre business. Watching her these past years, I for one, feel sure she will fulfill her dreams. Our very best wishes are with Tina in whatever comes her way. Tina's parents Tom and Therese (my sister) and her brother, Thomas, were all beaming with happiness for our "little Tina".
My best wishes go out to everyone for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
