| Curran Events Hey ya’ll. We are having fun now! Hornets usually get stirred up by sticks, but this time words have done the Deed. I had planned to write about my ab-normal "corn-pone" subject matter but since I’ve gotten some feed-back on last week’s article I must for this week remain opinionated, partisan, bi-partisan, liberal, conservative and otherwise disagreeable on some statements. First let me welcome Mr. Meneely to our community and as a writer for this paper its good to read others viewpoints. I agree with you that banning the flag is "over the top" but my question is, Why do we allow these Knuckleheads to continue banning its use? Just who in the Wide, Wide, Wide, World of Sports are these folks that we might offend? Point of matter, Berkeley, California banned U.S. Flags from their city fire trucks so as not to offend anyone in the community-WHAT! A Florida school ordered all "Proud to be an American" signs removed so as not to offend International students-WHAT!! You may not plan on losing any sleep over these actions but these actions are going against the very fundamental beliefs of this country. If we are going to allow this kind of pressure from foreign citizens then why don’t we just PAINT the United States PLAIN VANILLA!!! some may answer by saying that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion- Well they are, but read the First Amendment. It reads in short- The First Amendment gives every Citizen, Let me repeat Citizen. That’s American citizen since its the U.S. Constitution the right to voice an opinion on these subjects. It does not say that everyone who resides, visits, goes to school or is an illegal immigrant is afforded the right to express his opinion about our government, culture or society, the Key Words are American Citizen. I as an American Citizen, sixth generation Texan am offended, especially when I see a boxing match held in Las Vegas, Nevada and at my last glance of the map, Las Vegas is still a state in these here United States, and I see fans (I guess they were fans from the countries the fighters represented) waving a Cuban flag and a Brazilian flag. My question---Where were the Flag Police? If you’re in this country to become a U.S. Citizen, then become a U.S. Citizen. If you’re here to get an education, then get it, when you do either become a U.S. Citizen or GO BACK HOME. While you’re are studying its okay to share your culture, beliefs and religion with us, but don’t complain about our country! If you’re here to cause damage or to attack then May God have mercy on your soul! If you’re here to work vis a "bona-fide" legitimate work visa then do so, but don’t force us to educate your children in your language and don’t demand that we stop our good habits, such as displaying our flag, its colors, our symbols or our right to prayer, because you’re offended- like John Wayne said, "That’ll Be Tha Day!" Now, on the statements about "Christian Principals". I looked up the definition of Christian just so I would have an authoritative definition, in the Webster’s Dictionary, and it stated. "Christian: of or adhering to the religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ." Now, I do not profess to be a learned scholar of religion or religions and do agree that our present day beliefs have been passed down through the generations and I feel that interpretations we have caused us to have the denominations we have today. I truly believe that our "Forefathers" founded this nation on those beliefs, not those of Islam, Buddhism, Sciencetology or any other religion that does not place its trust in Jesus Christ! And with regard to your statement about separation of church and state answer these questions. Why does Congress open its sessions with Prayer? Why is the President sworn into his office with his hand on the Bible? Why is it that when we have a disaster such as the Trade Center bombings we see all types of public officials asking us to seek comfort in Prayer????? Huh? WHY? I believe they put it there so that this country and its states would not become a Protestant, Catholic, Anglican or Eastern Church, but rather a Christian based country on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Yes, you are right at the core of most religions are similar in values and those values are those of Jesus Christ! Remember this Country’s laws are based on "the will of the people" and that the majority rules. I don’t think you could present a case strong enough to convince me or the majority that the objection of a few are worth changing our country’s way of doing things. If you honestly feel that our forefathers did not want prayer in schools, flags in their halls, the halls of government office’s or the use of patriotic slogans and that patriotism and religious affiliation or not correlated then I wish you would come to the "OLD GEEZER’S" coffee at "King’s Cafe" every week-day morning and tell a former Marine, Army, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard veteran who has come under enemy fire, that Patriotism or Religion are not affiliated. No offense or dis-respect intended, but my interpretations of all this is different than your. No Congressman, Senator nor Supreme Court Judge should even have a say on such delicate matters, these matters should be left to the "will of the people". From Montgomery’s Sagebrush Philosopher. Until next time, Good Cow Call’n. Good Frog Gigg’n and Go Ag’s. Adios |
