Who We Are

Curran Events
by Brett Bowen

Thursday, October 11th marked one month since the terrible attacks on America with many taking a moment of silence and our American school children being lead in the "Pledge of Allegiance" by our President. Now the United States is dealing with an Anthrax scare which may loom much larger than it is at the moment and rumors abound that events could worsen in days to come. We should all take a moment and reflect on the matters at hand. These events are playing right into the minds of the terrorist, this is what they want, to strike fear into all of us, cause irrational decisions to be made and force us into making mistakes that may be devastating to us all. We cannot allow this to happen! I think our leaders are doing a good job keeping us informed, warning us of possible attacks in the future and telling us not to panic. Panic and rumors must be kept at a minimum and we as Americans must stand united, remain calm and let our military do their jobs and our government must not have any unnecessary distractions at his time. Sure, we must be cautious, keep our eyes open and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. I remember quite well the days after the J.F.K, assassination, the Cubans did it! The Russians are going to launch a nuclear attack! The world is coming to an end! It was scary, but things did return to normal and our nation learned some valuable lessons from it. We must do that now and if it means giving up some rights that we’ve become accustomed to, the "so be it", what’s more important? Our lives or some inconveniences that may slow our pace down, possibly averting some catastrophe. We have become too complacent, too dependent, too naive, too secure and too lax in our everyday lives. We’ve become too independent and really do not take a very good look at the world around us, think nothing about arriving ten minutes prior to our flight or being a little late to a meeting because we’ve taken the attitude- I’m important, everyone will wait for me."

If the events of September 11th has not shown us that we are just small "specks" in the big scheme of things, then God help us! The restrictions to come will slow us all down but maybe its for the best. Take some time, arrive early for appointments give yourself some time to watch others around you and remember that, most likely our intuitions are our best line of defense.
