| Curran Events Hey Ya’ll. Has the excitement of the season started to affect any of you? Well it sure has gotten me cranked up. By the way, to my good friend Tommy Imhoff, Tommy I promised you an article about your DEER LEASE this week, I hope you won’t mind but I put it off until next time. Also to the parents and coaches of the Montgomery Junior High 8th grade "UNDEFEATED PURPLE" football team. I’ve had to wait on a final summary article and team picture so stay turned, it will appear in MCN soon. Right! Regina? Now before I start, I’d like to say howdy to some new friends--a big HOWDY to Anya McInnis (Bobby she represents our electric competition in Dobbin) and to Sandra Walker--Great to meet ya’ll and thanks to Linda Mock for introducing me. On Tuesday morning, December 11, 2001 I had the great pleasure of attending the Eleventh Annual Prayer Breakfast hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Lake Conroe. Thanks to my pastor Brother Joel Wilson and wife Melinda and to Brother Sam Marr for having me as their quest. The program was magnificent and hosted by a great friend of The Montgomery County Fair, Mr. Morris Eickenhorst. Morris has a way of communicating beyond all others and sure has the "gift of gab". The event was highlighted by some Amazing musical talent. Alan Fuller with his most splendid voice sang several heart rendering pieces as did Melanie Inabinet with a heart-felt song about our "Statue of Liberty". That’s not all--Super Congratulations should go out to Connie Shiflet as she directed a splendid performance by the Music Makers. A group of Montgomery School children. She also sang with Mr. Fuller and the children on a piece entitled WE WILL STAND, and also did a solo called THE ONE’S LEFT STANDING. She is truly an amazing talent and another reason we as parents should be proud our children attend school in the MISD system. Thanks should also be extended to Janet Williams, Principal who plays a vital role in the children’s music programs. Next on the program was the featured speaker and to set up his appearance Mr. Jerry Durbin did a great job of bringing on a fellow AGGIE. Jerry also got in some humor about the "SH 105 Autoban" and of the great rivalry between "TU" and the Texas A&M Aggies! The keynote speaker, Dr. G. Kimble Bennett, director of TEEX, member of the Texas A&M system and an expert on terrorism and search, rescue and recovery efforts for the State of Texas. Dr. Bennett took the audience by slide presentation through Ground Zero at the World Trade Center disaster and added insight about the horror, the compassion and the mission of a group of our fellow Texans as they were deployed to New York on September 12, 2001. He stressed the importance of teaching our children to read and how important it is that they understand the tragedy and to make them realize that they are safe in the greatest country in the World! Despite all the Semper-Fi’s, Gig-em’s, Hook-em, Boomer Sooner’s and the fact that the event took place in New York City, all the NYPD, FDNY, emergency personnel, doctors, nurses, rescue teams, skilled workers and volunteers’ were there for one purpose--Assist Fellow Americans! He emphasized the importance of God and prayer and that we as Americans should not be afraid nor scared to show our loyalty to God! Dr. Bennett really woke me up and changed my insight as to material possession’s especially during the Holiday Season when we have men and women and children, all fellow Americans, having to face the loss of loved ones. Sure makes some of our greed, demands and wants trivial to say the least. The event was attended by people from all walks of life including our U.S. Congressman, Kevin Brady, State Representative, Ruben Hope, and County Judge Alan "Barb" Sadler. I left with a real special Christmas gift and thank you Lake Conroe Kiwanis Club for giving it to me. The message that I hope all of you receive during this Holiday Season is the message of--Cherish our loved ones, have compassion for other and despite the objection of few--pray, give thanks every day and above all else, be grateful that this country is based on the foundation - IN GOD WE TRUST! From Montgomery’s Sagebrush Philosopher. Until next time; Good Cow Call’n. Good Frog Gigg’n and Go Ag’s Adios |
