| Curran Events Hey Yall! I’m confused, and some of you will say what is so unusual about that, but really I am. How many of you have been watching the great Enron debacle on TV? Here’s my confusion. I’m not taking sides on any of this but, is it not true that in this country you are innocent until proven guilty? Several years ago I served on a grand jury and we were presented the facts about the crime and we were to use these in order to make a determination as to whether a trial should be conducted or not. In our case there just was not enough evidence against the alleged person to warrant a trial. Throughout this period we were instructed not to discuss this with anyone, not even family and more pointed was the instruction regarding the press, no person on this jury could speak to the press! All of these instructions were to insure a fair and impartial trial if we did return with a decision to convict. For those of you who have been involved with jury duty know the drill---Have you read about this crime? Do you know this person directly or indirectly? How do you feel about this crime, etc, etc? Well, tell me how in the WORLD could any of these people involved in the Enron scandal get a fair trial!!! It has been the most talked about topic since 911. And who was the genius that decided the Senate hearings were to be televised? Biggest bunch of two-faced, biased, bigoted, zealots there ever was. These Senators are actually trying these Enron Executives on TV, making our country the laughing stock of the financial world and making it "darn near" impossible to get any of them a fair and impartial jury. How could any potential juror qualify to be on a jury panel? What is so ironic is that some of these Senators (Lawmakers) were actually involved in passing Tax Laws (Loopholes) that these Enron Exec’s are covering their tracks with! Both Democrats and Republicans alike have taken campaign contributions from BIG BUSINESS, including some of these Senators that are on the committee asking the questions, so how can they be involved--isn’t that a form of collusion? I think our right hand often times has no idea what our left hand is doing and WE THE PEOPLE have let our government install so many laws that the old saying about a "Philadelphia lawyer" no longer applies. Just look at all the paperwork you have to fill out just to buy a car! Now before I get shot by one of MCN’s readers let me say this--the Old idiom of "Your Hands Caught in the Cookie Jar" applies to this case, because I believe that Lay, Skilling and Fastow got a taste of the cookies! These guys don’t get paid BIG BUCKS to stand before a National TV audience and say they weren’t aware of some "SHADY" deals that were going on--"BULL DOOKY!!!" I don’t think that they have duped just Enron but all of the support business, the investors, the employee’s, potential employees, customers, politicians and many others, but I also think they had some help by other corruptible people, perhaps some government employees. Will we ever find out all the truth?? Naw, this is headed for a situation where someone takes the fall for all of them, but lives quite comfortable in the "Burbs" forever and forever. Hey! The Montgomery County Fair opens Friday, March 15th and runs thru Sunday, March 24th. This is the 45th run of the Fair and I hope all of you get a chance to come out and enjoy the fun.
