EDITORIAL COMMENTARY

Certain Comments Made
Letter to the Editor;
Certain comments made during the recent Candidate's Forum at the Old Baptist Church in Montgomery, various editorials and at the Last City Council Meeting have caused me some concern. 1) Passouts for attendees at future Council meetings similar to those given to Council members would in my opinion create additional expense as well as manpower hours for the City. 2) Attendees at Council Meetings not being able to hear much of what takes place at the meetings. This can easily be corrected by a sound system, or by those folks who are unable to hear what is said, simply by moving closer to the front of the room. 3) Location of City Hall as a possible cause for low attendance at Council meetings is far from the truth in my opinion. First, I have never been led to believe that the HWY 105 location would be anything other than a temporary location for a problem that existed at the time. Second, as a resident, I have always received information through Mayor Timmerman's Montgomery Messenger as to dates, times and locations for most meetings. Further, I have always been able to telephone City Hall and confirm dates, etc., for any future meetings. As far as transportation being a problem, I don't believe there's a church in our area that would not be willing to provide transportation if and when needed. I presently am experiencing some health issues myself, and believe me when I say it is no more difficult for me to get to the location on 105 that it is to the one on Stewart Street. 4) Disappointment over our new shopping center and the Texaco station not fitting in with the historical theme of Montgomery. Why is so much emphasis and so many critical remarks made about these specific locations, when there is a home located at the corner of Caroline Street and 149N that has been under construction for as far back as I can remember. I have heard many comments about how unsightly this property is that does nothing to enhance the beauty of downtown Montgomery. Also, there is a parking lot next to King's Restaurant which is a real eyesore after a bad rain, and about which I have also heard many negative comments. I'm not trying to nitpick but I do wonder why some situations receive so much attention, while others go ignored.
By the time this appears in the Montgomery County Newspaper, the election will be over. Regardless of who our Mayor is at the time, this appears I want to thank Mayor Timmerman from the bottom of my heart for an outstanding job during the past two years. I have appreciated her strong dedication to the position, and especially the many long hours and hard work she has continued to put forth in spite of adversity.
