Support Our Team
Sorry if I step on some toes, but if you know me you know I'm very vocal!
When I asked my husband, of twenty five plus years, why he goes fishing even when the fish weren't biting, and his answer was always the same. I love to fish; the catching is just a wonderful plus!
Now I ask; why do fans come to Friday night football games? Is it to see your child play or for a sure win? If it is the latter, you would be wise to tape a Win and watch it each week. Then you would be assured the satisfaction of a win.
Seriously this is a plea! Our youth practice long and hard each week to prepare to play on Thursday and Friday nights. They play their hearts out; and so far this year have played schools that are larger than Montgomery; and I'm sure they would love to come away with a win as much as or maybe more than the fans. If they don't win or if they happen to miss a block, drop a pass or fumble a ball that is the time when they really need us to back them up with shouts of encouragement or applause for their efforts. Believe me, I am sure they are beating themselves up for the mistake, they certainly do not need people in the stands shouting derogatory remarks at them or point out that that wasn't the first ball missed or dropped. Oh yes! I have heard over and over each week people in the stand degrading players and coaching staff. And these are supposed to be Bear Fans!!! Please, this kind of action does not set a good example for our youth nor does it make them play harder.
While I'm stepping on toes I might as well STOMP. Let's support our coaching staff. I'm sure we have no ideas how many hours they spend preparing our kids to play and probably long weekends watching films trying to figure a way to improve for next week.
Parents, a Friday night loss might seem like the end of the world but I promise in the years ahead, you will not remember what the scores were. What you will remember is the great play or how proud you were to see him wearing that uniform so proudly. I don't remember the score or any of the games Patrick played. But I remember him telling me the only voice he could really hear while on the sidelines was mine, even with his helmet on. I pray he heard only words of encouragement for him and his team, not some uncalled for negative comment.
Let's enjoy watching our KIDS, playing the game and let WINNING be a wonderful plus.
