Thank You New Caney
Letter to Editor;
As members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and players for the Montgomery Bear Varsity Football Team we would like to say thanks to the New Caney Eagles for beginning our game last Friday night, September 24th with a word of prayer spoken over the public address system. As athletes we appreciate our efforts being blessed by prayer. The game we play is not for the meek and we know that our parents and we know that our parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends often worry about the possibility of us being injured in a game. We the love the game and our coaches who not only teach us that game but instill in us the will to compete, our fans who watch us play and our teachers who give us the educational tool we need in life. Those of us who choose to play this game do so at our own free will just as we choose to believe in God. We feel strongly about those who display their feelings publicly and often feel discriminated against because we are made to say our prayers in private.
We mean no disrespect to those of other cultures who do not believe as we do, but this Country that allows us to play this game we love was founded on the very principals that we must now hide or refrain from.
We feel that New Caney did the right thing and we appreciate their thoughtfulness.
