In My Opinion...Not That You Asked
Where are the Statesmen?
from Scot P. Bauer
In the summer of 1940, war was raging all over the world, and there was little doubt that this tide would engulf United States sooner or later. During a speech, FDR told America "All private plans, all private lives, have in a sense been repealed by an overriding public danger." During that same year, Wendell Wilkie was the Republican nominee opposing FDR's unprecedented quest for a 3rd term as president.
There is no better example of someone repealing their "private plans" that this true statesman, Wendell Wilkie.
He gave Roosevelt the critical support he needed for a peacetime draft, a very unpopular idea at the time. He also made it clear that he would rather lose the election than make national security a partisan campaign issue.
Wendell Wilkie sacrificed his political ambitions for the better good of the country, and he was ultimately defeated in the election. Shortly before he died, the Republican told a friend that if he could write his own epitaph and had to choose between "Here lies a president" or "Here lies one who contributed to saving freedom," he would prefer the latter.
Where are such Statesman today? Where is the bi partisanship in this country when we need it the most? Even today, everyone remembers the attack on Pearl Harbor, but the 9/11 attack (which killed more people) has somehow been forgotten.
The Democrats manic obsession with destroying the presidency of George Bush at the cost of ANYTHING, with personal gain being the only consideration, has endangered us all. The Democrats have consistently opposed anything and everything that the President has proposed to help win the war on terrorism. They are opposed for selfish reasons: They need failure so their personal political power can prosper.
When ANY politician interferes with America's ability to defend itself during wartime, it is committing an act of treason. Period. When the Democrats get on television and blast the war against terrorism and the President, they encourage our enemies.
When the enemies of our country see a united front, they will stop to reconsider. But all they see are Democrats foaming at the mouth against the Administration, which gives the impression of a divided country, and that is an encouragement to continue to kill Americans. A divided enemy is the one you want to fight.
I've heard plenty of Liberal Democrats state "I don't agree with the war in Iraq." Have you ever, once, heard a Liberal Democrat say anything to the effect of, "I don't agree with the 9/11 attacks"?
Me neither.
I'm not saying that all Democrats are stupid (but most are), because they know the effect of what they are doing. They just don't care. The security of the county just takes second fiddle to their quest for power. |
