Robbery suspect in custody

Bank robbery and arrest

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office
PRESS RELEASE
November 30

On November 30, District 2 Patrol Units were dispatched to the 32000 Blk. of F.M. 2978 and F.M. 1488 to the Amegey Bank at around 9:20 a.m. in reference to a bank robbery.

Deputies learned that the bank had been robbed by a male suspect armed with a pistol. The suspect was wearing an overcoat with a hat and earmuffs and had fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Units responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and processing evidence that was located in and around the bank. While the investigation was being conducted an attempt to locate was broadcast by M.C.S.O. Dispatch advising all Sheriff’s Office personnel and other area law enforcement agencies of the suspect’s general description.

Approximately one hour after the robbery a Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety saw a male matching the general description of the suspect walking near the vicinity of the bank with no jacket. The Trooper attempted to stop the male but the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was apprehended behind Gold’s Gym at the intersection of F.M. 1488 and F.M. 2978.

The suspect was identified as John Vincent Travers 48, who is believed to have been living in the Magnolia, Texas area. Further investigation is on-going.

The suspect has cooperated with investigators and money, weapon and clothing have been recovered. After the robbery it is believed that Travers walked to a nearby coffee shop and then went to nearby barbershop where he had his haircut and mustached shaved. Travers was booked into the Montgomery County Jail charged with aggravated robbery. Bond has not been set as of this press release.

It is believed that Travers has been out of work and needed money to pay bills.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery or John Vincent Travers is urged to contact Detective D.T. Lozano at 936-760-5876.
